Balancing your body’s pH is extremely important. A very simple way to work on it may be something you already drink: lemon water!
Not only is lemon water refreshing, best of all it’s alkalizing. We know that a diet that is high in processed foods and sugar results in an unbalanced pH level. This leaves the body vulnerable to immune problems, slow metabolism and poor assimilation of nutrients. Though lemons are acidic, they have an alkalizing effect when they are metabolized, with a pH level higher than seven.
Ross Bridgeford’s article, “Lemon Water Benefits – Taking Advantage of the Alkalizing Superstar,” lists these benefits of lemon water:
- Lemons are antiseptic
- Lemon water has excellent digestive properties and can ease heartburn, bloating, and other digestive problems
- Lemon water stimulates and cleanses the liver and kidneys
- Lemon juice contains calcium, magnesium, and potassium
- Lemon juice has been known to relieve asthma
- Hot lemon water offers relief from cold and flu symptoms while providing much-needed vitamin C
- Lemon juice is a great skin cleanser
- Lemon water ignites metabolism
It is important to remember that it is balance we seek. We do need both alkali and acids, but it important to eat more alkaline foods such as vegetables and fruits.
Worried about the effect fruit acid will have on tooth enamel? Enjoy your lemon water through a straw!
Enjoy introducing lemon water into your diet. Here’s to your health!
